well this week has been pretty much a write-off exercise-wise. i did my long run on monday, which was really good. i felt alright in spite of the heat and kept on ticking through it. tuesday was a rest day as i had no time due to work. then yesterday i went for a run which turned out to be the most miserable run ever because my throat became insanely sore and it was painful to breathe.

sure enough once i cooled down from the run and stretched every muscle in my body started aching and i started getting feverish. i had a relatively cool shower to try and get rid of the hot fever but no such luck. i ended up going to bed at 10pm but didn't fall asleep until well after 2:30am. what a horrible night. and now, today, i feel like total crap, which likely won't be gone in time for a run tomorrow morning. then that means i won't run until sunday! SUNDAY! that's ages away!

*sigh* physically i feel like crap. total and utter crap. why must i get sick???? i do everything right! why must i be punished for that?!?! whyyyyyyyy?

okay, that's enough whining out of me for tonight. it is now going on 10:00 so i think i will take it as my time to go to bed and try to sleep. try being the operative word. ugh.
so it's now time for me to write my first post! sorry guys, i've been a little slack in the computer department lately. i've been trying to spend my spare time outside enjoying the summer weather we have finally been having.

goals-wise i haven't set anything but a few short term ones. the main one is to compete the in mountain to surf marathon on march 3rd. andrea and i are going to split it and do half each, so ideally i want to beat my quickest half marathon time for this one. whether it's by a minute or ten minutes, i'll be happy with a personal best time. it's a different half marathon than the other three i have run, with less hills, so i expect that my time will be a bit quicker than the other ones i have done.

my second goal is to try and drop some weight by the trip home in june. since i started eating healthier and exercising more regularly i have dropped 2kgs, which is the equivalent to 4.4pounds. i figure i can afford to lose roughly 10 to 15 pounds to be at a healthier weight. i have been that weight previously and it's when i felt the most energetic and happy with myself.

andrea and i have been focusing on eating well, which is helping with energy levels throughout the day. i've stopped drinking my favourite grande non-fat caramel lattes for a number of reasons, and i think that is helping quite a bit as well. i am grabbing fruit for snacks but still allowing myself treats at random times to avoid binging on crap when i'm hungry.

exercise has been good and consistent over the last two or three weeks. i've been getting out for regular runs and have started kayaking once or twice a week, depending on my schedule. kayaking is a great workout and i think i am going to really enjoy it as i improve. i am keen to start playing squash when i get some spare time and give surfing a shot while it's still warm out here.

and that's me in a nutshell for now! i've just returned home from a 10km run which took me 53 minutes. it was a bit of a challenge as it was still pretty warm out so my heart rate was a bit higher than it should have been for a longer distance run. i felt alright when i finished the last stretch though so i was happy with it!

now that i've updated here i shall go shower! i just wanted to update while i was thinking about it! :)

Hello fitness ladies!

How are you all doing? I thought I would write a quick note (from work--lots of down time here at the City of Calgary) and let you know what I have been doing fitness-wise and what my basic goals are for the next couple of months.
Uncle Rod, Auntie Carol and I have begun a challenge in the house that has us working out 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes or we have a consequence in the subsequent week! These consequence include terrible cleaning jobs around the house for I think it is 2 hours (cleaning blinds, bathrooms, scrubbing hardwood). We are in week 2 right now and I am really enjoying the motivation it gives me to drag my butt onto their treadmill. It also helps that I have that treadmill with a tv set up in front of it right outside my room. Some days in Calgary I wouldn't be able to make it outside at all (-30 isn't my kind of running weather).
I also have taken up snowshoeing with my friend Shari (who if everything works out by this weekend I will be going to Africa with) and her bf Geir. We went last Saturday for a 6 hour trek...great workout with great scenery! We are going again this week to the same spot because we had such a great day.
One other thing I have just joined is a dodgeball league with Shari and some of her friends from work! I haven't played since highschool, but it should be a lot of fun. I don't know what kind of workout I will get depending on how many people are on the team and how much playing time we all get but I hope it involves A LOT of running. My favorite workouts are the ones where you are having too much fun to realize the burn!

My main goal is to just get active again, feel good about myself and all the while lose between 10-15 pounds. Since returning from NZ I gained some weight and was just feeling crummy about myself. I think it was hard at first being in a new city and not knowing what to get involved in. I don't know what I would do without Shari and Geir. They let me tag along on all of their outings and that has REALLY helped getting me going again. All of my fitness stuff has just begun (2 weeks for all of it) and I know the hardest part for me is consistancy.

I know these goals aren't super specific..more of those will come later (half-marathon goal times, getting back into swimming and hopefully on a bike will come as I get more into it). For now I need to get into a workout routine and go from there :)

I just joined today and wanted to quickly post to see if this works :) PS I just got off the treadmill from a 30 minute run--nothing too crazy but I managed to motivate myself on.
